Consumer Charter & Standards

TPI Company members must operate and abide by the principles of our Consumer Charter and Standards, which help to raise professionalism and best practice among those operating within the sector.

The Consumer Charter and Standards are a milestone for consumer protection in the residential leasehold sector. Our Standards ensure a TPI Company member has:

We encourage future and current TPI Company members to familiarise themselves with our Consumer Charter and Standards. Adhering to these principles enhances professionalism and promotes best practices within the sector.

Raising Standards: Best Practice Guides

To help our members keep up with the latest industry standards, all TPI Companies have access to over 100 exclusive Guidance Notes covering all aspects of block management. These are best practice guides, created by industry experts for today’s property managers. They are regularly updated and reviewed as and where needed.

Types of Membership

Managing agents aren't the only industry professionals who can apply for TPI membership. Industry suppliers, as well as RMC/RTM companies can join TPI and benefit from expert guidance and regular sector updates.

  • Member

    A TPI Member firm meets TPI's Consumer Charter & Standards. 
A TPI Member will:

     

    • Have the right professional experience

  • Associate

    Associates are managing agents working towards becoming a Member, but who do not yet meet the two-year trading rule, or who may have had their application for accreditation declined.

    This TPI membership group is for companies not directly involved in block management, but whose services are essential for managing agents. Members have access to a partner directory when logged-in.

  • Network

    TPI Network membership is open to any organisation which is not directly involved in the practice of residential block management or which manages only its own portfolio of residential properties, and who wish to benefit from the professional advantages and technical support offered by TPI.

    Network members can be:

    • Freeholders (including Freehold Managers & Freeholder’s Agents)
    • Corporate landlords
    • Residential developers/housebuilder
    • Housing associations
    • Local authorities
    • Other Registered Providers

    This membership is for non-commercial companies involved in the management of their own leasehold blocks who are seeking guidance on best practice.

Application Process

To become a Company Member of TPI, managing agents must achieve TPI Accreditation.

We would normally expect successful applicants for Company Membership to be confirmed within two to three months.

Sign up and complete the online Membership Enquiry Form. Once reviewed by the secretariat, and depending on your eligibility, you will be asked to complete the full Application, Form. You will need to complete this within six months.

Upload the requested information to support your application. Your unique log-on details will automatically request several documents, including TPI’s Professional Indemnity Insurance compliance certificate, your complaints procedure and others.

At the final stage of the application process, you will be asked to state that your company operates according to the principles in the Consumer Charter, Standards and operates within the requirements set out in The Property Institute's Articles of Association and Bye-Laws.

Company Members undergo a Compliance Review within a three-year cycle. The overall aim of the Compliance Review is to provide an assurance to TPI, its members, clients and leaseholders that accredited members of TPI are complying with TPI Consumer Charter and Standards.

Company Member application fees vary depending on the number of leasehold units managed. Please refer to our 'Guide to Joining' for the most current breakdown of fees. The application fee for Partners/Network and RMC/RTM Co. Directors is £63.00 + VAT. Please note all application fees are non-refundable.
